The 10 inch tall plants produce  flattened globe shaped bulbs. The skin is a pale green with white flesh. This variety is slightly earlier than the Purple Vienna. Assure that it grows in cool weather as heat will make it bitter. The bulb sits above the ground and may be prepared in a variety of ways - steamed, broiled, grated and baked. Very delicious. 55 days.

WHEN TO PLANT: 4-6 weeks before frost-free date DEPTH OF PLANTING: cover seed with 1/4" of fine soil PLANTS APART IN ROWS (AFTER THINNING): 9" apart DISTANCE BETWEEN ROWS: 18" apart

RAISED BED PLANTING GUIDE: After thinning, plants should be 9" apart throughout bed.

SOIL TYPE RECOMMENDED: Soil should be rich in composted material and able to hold moisture.

NOTE: Harvest Kohlrabi when it is young and immature. No larger than 1-2 inches in diameter.

TUCSON PLANTING INFORMATION: Fall planting and winter plantings are best for Tucson. Plant between September 1 and February 15.
